The meeting ceremony was held today at the Belarusian-Polish border at the international checkpoint “Warsaw bridge”, BelTA reports.

Нe caravan of the torch relay arrived in the Republic after the completion of the foreign stage. A torch lighting ceremony was held on the border to further follow the “Flame of peace” across Belarus. This mission was fulfilled by the Olympic champion in the 100 m race Yulia Nesterenko.

Brest is the first city in Belarus to be visited by the Flame of peace.

“The solemn ceremony of lighting the fire shows that our country is ready to host the II European games. We have prepared the infrastructure, the preparation of athletes is at the final stage, all the federations are actively working in this direction. Our athletes are determined to perform at home as best as possible,” said Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Chairman of the Republican organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of the II European games Igor Petrishenko.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that holding a multi-sport forum is a serious exam. “This is an additional incentive to demonstrate our best opportunities and an additional stage, so that we can declare even larger events and competitions,” he said.

The fire of the II European games will stay in Brest on may 12-13. The torch will be carried through the Central streets of the regional center to acquaint residents and guests with this large-scale forum. In the role of torch-bearers will perform well-known Belarusians, including the natives of the Brest region. The relay will be held in five cities of the region. The fire of the games will also be met in Kamianets, Pinsk, mikashevich, Baranovichi and Kossovo, and on may 18 it will be transferred to the Grodno region.

“Brest region is the Western gate of the country. We are aware of all the responsibility for the fact that participants and guests of the II European games from the first minutes of their stay on the Belarusian land should feel its special color, beauty, hospitality and openness of Belarusians. I am sure that the “Flame of peace” will inspire Belarusian athletes to achieve high results,” said Gennady Borisyuk, Deputy Chairman of the Brest regional Executive Committee.

The flame of peace relay started on may 3 in Rome and will end on June 21 with the solemn lighting of the Olympic flame bowl at the Central arena of the II European games – the National Olympic stadium “Dynamo”. In total, the fire of the games will be carried through 55 settlements in 8 countries (Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland and Belarus), and its length will be 7700 km. 450 torchbearers, 100 volunteers and 10 fire keepers will take part In the relay.
